        Upstairs Downstairs
The revival of the iconic series enjoyed by millions worldwide

On 26, 27 and 28 December 3 x 1 hour films were transmitted on BBC 1 at 9 pm returning this much loved series to our screens.  Writer Heidi Thomas who brought us the very popular Cranford and Piers Wenger, Head of Drama at BBC Wales and Nikki Wilson Producer have brought us 3 touching, action packed scripts and a fabulous cast.  Christine Allsopp is the Make-Up and Hair Designer for the series, supervising the look for the entire cast and she and some of her team used MBC make-up brushes on many of the cast.  Shot in HD on the Arri's Alexa High definition camera this raised the game of make-up application even higher because it sees in breathtaking detail, even in shadows.  Fine brushes and products are essential to the give the sheer application necessary for this level of work.

Hopefully audiences will be substantial enough to command a re-commission of the series and more episodes for all to enjoy.

Film 2010
Swinging with the Finkels

When we were filming at Borough Market last summer "Film 2010" came to visit the set.  The new romantic comedy "Swinging with the Finkels" is due to be released later this year.  If you would like to see Christine on TV finishing final checks on Martin Freeman, and more importantly a few words about the project from the Producer, Director and stars then check out this link, our piece starts 11:50 minutes in.

A new film about how to clean your make-up brushes

A frequently asked question is "How do you clean make-up brushes".  When this site was first created, a little demo-film was made and it has been available in the Free area since 2006.  However, the World has changed much since then and in response to the urgent need for us all to reduce our carbon emissions and to raise awareness about saving water and energy, we have decided to make a new film about how to clean your make-up brushes.  Every better choice adds up to a difference, and as we have so many visitors from around the World, we hope this new film will help our visitors make a difference in their water usage and their local environment.

Key elements of the simple process of cleaning brushes will include: using a jug to save water while it runs to warm, (this can be saved for rinsing) and using a small container to agitate the brushes in a gentle shampoo and for rinsing.  The tap used will be turned off much of the time, showing it is not necessary or useful to leave the tap running while cleaning make-up brushes.  We will show that with this method it is possible to clean the whole set of 9 brushes thoroughly with less than one litre of water.

A Royal Wedding

On 12th September our make-up brushes were used by make-up artist Christine Allsopp to do Sophie Winkleman's make-up for her wedding which took place at Hampton Court.  "After the ceremony many photographs both media and private were to be taken.  Sophie told me she'd cried during the ceremony and felt she needed a make-up check.  Fortunately because we had taken the time to do a pre-base and let it settle, the make-up had held up really well, so checks were quick and easy.  In my experience, only working with good make-up brushes which lay the make-up so well onto the skin will give you this advantage."

The Make-up Brush Company announces it's working with a major new feature film
A Romantic Comedy - "Swinging With The Finkels"

We are are thrilled to announce that Christine Allsopp, our brush designer recently chiefed the make-up and hair design for a major new feature film, the romantic comedy, "Swinging with the Finkels" filmed in London during the Summer of 2009.  Not only were MBC make-up brushes used by the Make-Up Department on the film, they also feature in a couple of scenes, as set dressing in the leading couple's gorgeous home and behind the scenes at a fashion show which takes place in the film.  Watch this space ......  The film is likely to go to Festivals next year 2010 and will likely receive a theatrical release for 2010.

"Margaret Thatcher - the Long Walk to Finchley"

We are thrilled to announce that our Founder and brush designer Chief make-up artist Christine Allsopp has received her third nomination for a BAFTA Award for her work on "Margaret Thacher - The Long Walk to Finchely".
Christine and her team used The Make-Up Brush Company's pink make-up brushes on the production.  This witty, polished, elegant fiction is based on the early years of Margaret Thatcher's political life. Below is a photo of her work place laid out to receive the leading lady for her make-up call.

"Margaret Thatcher - The Long Walk to Finchley" was produced for BBC Wales by Great Meadow Productions.

5 New films and a New Taster are in The Make-Up Room

Susan Jinks (actress and good friend) and I have been in my studio filming and the resulting 5 x 3.58" Master Classes are finished and we are doing tests with the file size to choose optimum quality for good streaming.  We hope to have them in the Make-Up Room this month.

New music is provided by David Harris, a well known and respected musician and composer, and, by the way, Susan's husband.

Our models show you how even beginners can create surprisingly polished results easily with our make-up brushes and guidance.  A FREE 50 visit pass to the Make-up Room comes with each Principal, Core and For Eyes Only Sets.
